Starting to Remember

I wish I had some witty way to open my first post on my first blog...but I don't. All I have is an honest heart and the desire for something to remember my life by. You see, most people's memories are sharp and clear. They can reminisce for hours about stories from their childhood, how they felt when they entered a new school, and the friends they kept along the way. I, on the other hand, have been gifted a somewhat blurry long term memory. One which has forced me to chronicle my life through photographs and journals. Don't get me wrong; I keep the monumental, life-changing events near to my heart by replaying them over and over in my mind. I can recount every detail about the day Keane proposed to me in front of a waterfall in Maui, how it felt to stand before a hundred people and profess my commitment to him on our wedding day, and the depth of our faith talks on our family room couch at night.

But it's the monotony of life that I find to be most beautiful- The daily, fleeting moments that we choose to be present for like touching cold toes under the sheets at night, or having a friend call just to say she was thinking about you, or spooning your dog on the hardwood floor. I want to be sure I remember those moments too.

All of life's moments are worth remembering and I'm choosing to start now.
