Dual Survivors

Have you ever camped without really camping? Me neither. Until this weekend.

We decided to "day camp" at the Flaming Gorge since my activities are still very much limited by my surgery and I didn't think sleeping on the ground would feel very good.

We found our spot on the reservoir with a little more success than our last go aroundand we remembered our precious cooler!

Keane fashioned some necessary shade for me before going swimming with the dogs. We had our own private beach-front campsite with no one around to bother us.

There is no "reserving campsites" nonsense here in Wyo. In fact, you can pretty much go anywhere you want to go and do anything you want to do.
The freedom is amazing.

By the way, who ever heard of a Husky who loved to swim? I'm pretty sure we have an anomaly on our hands. Part wolf, part dolphin. Anyhoooo.....

No "camping without really camping" trip would be complete without a fire and some S'more making. So that's just what we did.

Please note the conversation which took place while building the fire:

Him: "It's a good thing I've been brushing up on my survival skills recently."
Me: "Oh you mean by watching Dual Survivor and Lost?"
Him: "Yeah."

Normally, my S'more making ability rivals most. My trick is to melt the chocolate on the graham cracker before adding the marshmallow because, let's face it, no one wants to bite into a cold chunk of chocolate when it could be warm and gooey instead. Am I right? I'm right.

My first attempt of the season however, wasn't exactly successful. I got distracted and my marshmallow caught fire. Rookie mistake.

But I didn't give up that easy!
Ahh, that's more like it. I even taught Keane a thing or two.

After setting off a few bottle rockets, we packed up camp and headed home to sleep in our own bed.
Who knows, this might just be my new favorite kind of camping!
